"Montre des années folles"
The Vendôme was Cartier's first quartz watch launched in the 70s and quickly became a commercial success for the maison. It was launched in two versions: the must de Cartier in gold plating "vermeil" and the version Louis Cartier in 18k gold.
This example offered is of the latter. A 30mm, 18k gold case housing a quartz movement with distinct horizontal lugs to which the bracelet is attached. It is said that Louis Cartier, in 1934, patented this new "attache" form drawing inspiration from the shape of the only two streets, Rue de la Paix and Rue de Castiglione, which lead to Place Vendôme from above below the square.
The dial signed "Paris" indicates this watch was originally sold from the Paris or London branch of Cartier.
